Salida, Colorado!

We made it to Salida Colorado on Saturday, after getting the brakes done on the back of the coach on Friday, to our amazement we have disc brakes all around on this old coach, the first owner must have had a lot of upgrades!  We are benefiting from that!!  Saturday morning we got two tires put on the front and off we went!  We passed Blue Mesa Reservoir, shocked at how low it is.

When we pulled into the Wal-Mart in Salida, we decided to spend the night there, its only a few miles to our destination, but we were so tired after driving through the mountains.  We have decided we are “Traveling America, one Wal-Mart at a time.”

Late Saturday night, a young man pulled in with a 1923 Model T on a trailer, he said its pretty much original, including the wood spokes on the wheels!!  He was fun to talk to.  I went to get a picture of the Model T, and wouldn’t you know it, the batteries in the camera were done for.   I figure that while I don’t have a picture of it, I do have it up here in my brain.  Going to have to make sure we have extra batteries from now on.

Sunday we were able to dump our tanks and get water at the visitor center in town, so we have plenty of water and room for sewage.  Its very nice to have towns that have free or donation dumps.  Water being available is also very nice.

Here is where we are, just 5 miles outside of town, and right by the Arkansas River.

We will be leaving here on Thursday, to go to Canon City, Colorado for a night, spend part of my nieces birthday with her, might have to take her for a Happy Meal!!

After that we will be going to Harrisburg Ne, to visit with my son for a bit.

By the way, we found a great radio station here, its called Hippy Radio, they stream online too, so we will be able to listen to them while not in the area.  Oldies to not so oldie, I keep hearing songs I thought I had forgotten about.  It just keeps coming back to me!
