While we were there, we decided to venture along the beach, because well, we could....
Signage letting us know we had arrived
We drove along the beach just enjoying the nice wind, sunshine, and sand, along with the chill in the air from the wind.
When we had gone past the "Don't go past this sign unless you have 4 wheel drive, tow trucks are expensive" sign, not to mention that there is NO CELL service, so you have to walk over 5 miles to get out and even further to get a cell signal........we decided to stop and look around, mind you we have been here before, and there were never any shells on the beach, but SOMEONE,
who shall remain nameless, was lucky last year and found the ever elusive in one piece sand dollar..
so I decided it was my turn, I was going to find one today, come what may.
I started walking off down the beach, which was pretty clean compared to last year when we went, we didn't find any hard hats, (yep, we found 2 last year), no Zombie Gloves, (yep again) or any sea cucumbers, (yep we have found those too).
I must say that while I was walking I did see some shells, more than I have ever seen on Padre Island before, so I knew it was my day.
oh and by the way, there could be smuggling, of people or drugs in the area, because we are so close to an international border.....
The Jeep, I was in the picture, getting my feet wet, that didn't last for long, the water was soooo cold!
There was not a soul in sight!
Yeah, I let him get a picture of me, cant run and hide when there is no where to run to!
Its neat to see the way the wind sculpts the sand in the area.
I decided to take pictures of the shells I saw, there are always shells on Port A Beaches, but there were some on Padre Island today, and they were fun to find.
ah ha, about a 1/3 piece of one, but I want to find a whole one...
almost a half of one
I liked the color of this one, and I took it home.
I am pretty sure this piece of wood had just been brought in by the tide.
if you look you will see a bird in this picture..
that yellow "string" is actually a plant that grows in the water, it adheres to sand dollars to keep itself in place, according to the man at the Visitor Center. Alas, I still have not found a intact Sand Dollar...maybe next time.
But Wait, I have found one, too bad it was in a display in the Visitor Center, and I was unable to bring it home.
This one too. Oh well. But I did find 2 of them....sort of, well, not really, but it was a great day anyway!
